Mihai G. Netea studied medicine in Cluj-Napoca, and then he obtain his PhD and specialization in internal medicine and infectious diseases at Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. He currently heads the Experimental Medicine Division of the Department of Internal Medicine, University Medical Center Nijmegen. His scientific interests are focused on understanding the immune response during severe infections, as well as the influence of genetic factors influencing the biology of human populations. He received the Spinoza Prize in 2016, and since the same year he has been a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences. He is the laureate of numerous prizes, the recipient of many international grants and a collaborator of important international institutes, as well as the author of numerous scientific studies.
