    Hayder Hasan’s parents left Iraq because of war. He grew up in Libya, fled the war against Gaddafi, spent eighteen months in Egypt and moved to Toronto in 2013. At medical school in Cluj, he tried to join research and was turned away, for not speaking Romanian or for lacking the experience he had come to get. His first research came through the University of Toronto, before his own university. Now in his final year, he heads research at EMSA Cluj and led the build of UMF Cluj Research, so the next student finds a way in.
